We ran Pinot Palooza in every major Australian city in 2017, and at each event we held a competition where guests could vote for their favourite winemaker.

It worked like this: Guests arrived, collected their Plumm wine glass, and began their epic tasting journey through all the wines on offer at each event. Once they’d tasted all of them (or as many as they could), they voted for their favourite.

We announced each city’s top three on the day. But once we’d wrapped up the Australian tour, we calculated each winery’s ranking overall to determine the top 10 wineries, as voted by the people, for 2017.

Over 120 producers joined us during the tour, and almost all of them got a vote, which was great to see. What was even better to see was that the different styles, regions, winery sizes and winemaker personalities represented in the Top 10 list pretty much summed up what Pinot Palooza is all about.

Luckily for you, Singapore, four out of the top 10 are here today. We’ve included the full list but there’s more written about the ones who are here so you know who to look out for. We’ll be running a People’s Choice competition here today, so make sure you vote for your favourite!

1st Place: MOONDARRA, Gippsland, Victoria

Neil Prentice’s family bought a farm at Moondarra in the Gippsland Mountain Rivers District in Victoria, Australia, in 1991, with a plan to grow beef cattle. But Neil wanted to grow Pinot Noir, and did so, thankfully, for if he hadn’t, we wouldn’t be blessed today with his powerful Pinots. But Neil is so much more than his wine. Find his stand and we guarantee he’ll be out the front of it (not stuck behind), chatting to you all, maybe even dancing!

2nd Place: VINTELOPER, Adelaide Hills, South Australia

Vinteloper’s winemaker is a very tall man by the name of David Bowley. He makes wine in the Adelaide Hills in South Australia; wine that is so good, he came second in the 2017 People’s Choice, first in 2016, and second again in 2015. That’s three times running he’s been voted among the best Pinot makers in Australia. Make sure you taste his wine!

3rd Place: MT DIFFICULTY, Central Otago, New Zealand

Just because Mt Difficulty is based across the ditch in Central Otago, New Zealand, hasn’t stopped them making it to every Pinot Palooza in 2017. It’s little wonder they came third in the competition. They also make some seriously delicious Pinot. Try some – you’ll see.

4th Place: HENSCHKE, Adelaide Hills, South Australia
5th Place: YABBY LAKE, Mornington Peninsula, Victoria
6th Place: CHATTO WINES, Huon Valley, Tasmania
7th Place: CURLY FLAT, Macedon Ranges, Victoria

8th Place: JOURNEY WINES, Yarra Valley, VIC

Winemaker Damian North joined us at the first ever Pinot Palooza with his first ever vintage, and he’s been back every year since. We’ve loved seeing his wines mature over the years, and we were really happy to see him make the top 10 in 2017. We can’t wait to hear what you think of them.

9th Place: CHARTERIS, Central Otago, New Zealand
10th Place: GOLDEN CHILD, Adelaide Hills, South Australia
